Total Court Size

Playing area for both singles and doubles. The same court size is used for all official pickleball matches.

Non-Volley Zone (Kitchen)

7 ft deep

Extends 7 feet from the net on both sides. Players may not volley the ball while standing in this zone.

Net Height

36″ at sidelines
34″ at center

The net dips slightly in the middle. Official height is measured at the center strap.

Recommended Surface

30 ft × 60 ft

Minimum total playing surface including overrun space around the court boundaries.

How to Mark Your Own Court

Follow this step-by-step process to lay out a regulation pickleball court on asphalt, concrete, or sport court tiles. All you need is a long tape measure, chalk line, and masking tape or paint.

  1. Prepare the surface. Ensure the area is clean, dry, and free of debris. For permanent courts, apply an acrylic sport surface coating first.
  2. Establish the center point. Mark the exact center of your 30 ft × 60 ft pad. Drive a stake or place a temporary mark.
  3. Mark the net line. From the center point, measure 22 feet toward each end to establish the baselines. Snap a chalk line across the width at the center for the net.
  4. Mark the baselines. Snap chalk lines 44 feet apart. These are the outer boundaries of the court.
  5. Mark the sidelines. Measure 10 feet from the centerline on each side to establish the 20-foot width. Snap chalk lines.
  6. Mark the non-volley zone lines. Measure 7 feet from the net line on each side and snap chalk lines parallel to the net.
  7. Mark the centerlines. Find the midpoint of each service court (10 feet from each sideline) and snap a chalk line from the non-volley line to the baseline.
  8. Apply permanent lines. Use 2-inch-wide court tape or paint. All lines are 2 inches wide and are considered in-bounds.
Pro Tip: Double-check all diagonal measurements. The distance from one corner of the court to the opposite corner should be approximately 48 feet 4 inches. If it isn't, your court is not square.
